Netflix's The Girl in the Mirror: Plot, Cast, and Everything Else We Know (2025)

Fans of the Netflix series 3% may enjoy this new Spanish thriller series coming to the streaming platform. The Girl in the Mirror, also called Alma, is a new supernatural thriller that follows Alma (Mireia Oriol) as she wakes up from a tragic bus crash with no memory of her life or the incident that took the lives of nearly all her classmates.

Netflix gave the project a series order in 2018, as reported by Variety. The series was created, directed, and written by Sergio G. Sánchez. His most recent project up to this point was Marrowbone, the 2017 film featuring Anya Taylor-Joy, now known for projects like The Queen's Gambit and Peaky Blinders. Belén Atienza (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Marrowbone), Jesús de la Vega (Remember Me, The Innocent), and Sandra Hermida (A Monster Calls, The Innocent) are listed as producers for The Girl in the Mirror.

Here's what to know about The Girl in the Mirror. Be prepared to wade through some fog, though it won't be anything like the mist you may be familiar with.

The Girl in the Mirror: The Plot

The provided plot synopsis gives a great idea of what audiences can expect from the show. A horrible accident changes the course of Alma's life forever as she tries to figure out why she's having strange visions and if they somehow relate to the cause of the accident.

After surviving a bus accident in which almost all her classmates die, Alma wakes up in a hospital with no memory of the incident... or of her past. Her house is full of memories that are not hers, and both amnesia and trauma cause her to experience night terrors and visions that she cannot clarify. With the help of her parents and friends, unknown to her, she will try to uncover the mystery surrounding the accident while struggling to recover her life and her identity.

The trailer shows the bus entering a weird fog before the accident happens in the mountains. Is there more to it than just being some simple fog on the road? The end of the trailer suggests that what happened in the fog was always meant to happen, based on information Alma and another survivor of the crash uncover.

It also hints that Alma had unfinished business with someone when the accident took place. A girl named Deva is trying to talk to Alma, asking to discuss "what happened," while a teacher tells her to sit down. It doesn't appear as though that conversation happened before the bus crashed. Could it be a clue as to what caused the accident?

As she tries to regain her footing, Alma begins seeing things others can't. It's unclear what these entail, but it is enough to spook her. There is also a skein of red yarn that crops up frequently in the trailer, sometimes with a tin can on the end, which could be a part of the mystery of the fog and the accident.

Variety hints that the people in Alma's life may be trying to mold her into something she wasn't before the accident. If this were the case, why would the people in her life want to change her? And does it have to do with the accident? Can she remember who she is before they succeed in planting a false memory of herself in her healing brain?

The Girl in the Mirror: The Cast

Mireia Oriol is Alma, one of few survivors of the accident. This isn't the first thriller fans of Spanish media have seen Oriol in. Audiences can catch the actress in The Pact (El Pacto), where she portrays a daughter in danger, and the series Terror.app, which follows a group of teen girls as they are trapped at the scene of a crime. Other projects Oriol may be familiar with are La treintena, a series about four friends turning 30 during the COVID-19 pandemic, or Les de l'hoquei, a series about hockey players trying to save the female section of their hockey club.
